Field Photoshoot Checklist

Field Photoshoot Checklist

There are a lot of things I need to bring on each field photoshoot. If I forget, I’m out of luck because the nearest Walmart is at least 30 minutes away (except for a Walmart that ended up being 9 walking minutes away, a story for another time). I put together a quick list of things I pack up. I usually prep the night before because I head out early in the morning to make it in time for golden hour. Here are just a few ways that I prep for my field photoshoots:

Charge: Always charge up all the batteries and equipment in one area of the house. That way it is easy to throw them all together.

Food: Pack a cooler with a lunch - there are no fast food restaurants off those dirt roads. I usually stick with a Subway sandwich.

Hydrate: I do not mess around when it comes to water. The night before I fill my Camelback with water and slip it into my camera backpack. I bring a 32oz hydro flask in the car just in case!

Music: Go through and download the best country music! No guarantees that there will be reception out in those fields. You can find my favorite country playlist here. My favorite artist right now is Ryan Hurd, so you might see a few of his added.

Coffee: I get my coffee pot ready at night. Pre-pour the water and put the grinds in the filter, I’m manual over here. But if I need something more, I’ll head to McDonalds for coffee because they are one of the only places open at 3am.

Sunscreen: My makeup has sunscreen in it, but I always add a little more to my face, hands and neck. Some think 50 SPF is a bit strong, but that is what I prefer.

Hat: Baseball caps are difficult to wear with a camera. I tried it once and ended up flipping it around backwards. It did not protect much other than my neck. Found this super cute cowgirl hat from Bootbarn.
