How to Select a Ripe Peach

One of my favorite summer and early fall fruits are peaches. Here are three ways to select a ripe Prima® Wawona peach at the grocery store! It can be done by looking at the color, smelling or squeezing. What I love about their peaches is that they are handpicked in totes so that the fruit is not bruised. That is why they are always so perfect!

  1. Color

First thing you want to look at is the color of the peach. You want to find a peach with bright colors, with warm yellow and golden undertones especially by the stem!

  2. Squeeze Test

Once you have taken a look at the color, give it a gentle squeeze in the palm of your hand. Don’t squeeze hard! If it gives slightly to your squeeze, that means that it is ripe. But if it does not and is firm, then it needs a few more days to ripen.

  3. Smell

This is my favorite way to figure out if it is ripe! It should smell like a delicious ready to eat peach. If it does not have any smell, then it is not ripe and needs a few more days to ripen.

Regardless, there are plenty of ways to enjoy a peach. Try using firm peaches in a salad or eating a ripe peach as a snack. Which I’m about to do! And that is how you select a ripe Prima peach from the grocery store.
